The title track. An autobiographical song. The title came to us in a dream while recording a different record in rural Mississippi. A place where so many crossroads stories in the blues tradition went down.

Tearing up outdated
Definitions ov myself

I’ve learned a couple tricks
In the masquerade ov trust
In the marathon ov skin

So all you other fools
Step aside
I’m finally ready
The king ov fools has arrived

Paradigm shift again
Surfing in a swamp
As the world caves in

I’m walkin’ down
To New Orleans
Cuz she’s one place
That will let me act insane

It only hurts
When we think it’s real
And that’s the thing
We got to learn if we’re to heal

As a creature ov the crossroads
I made an art ov being poor
And I can be invisible
In the middle ov a war

I’m wealthy now
Got what I need
I’m wealthy and I’m healthy
I’m happy and I’m free

Paradigm shift again
Surfing in a swamp
As the world caves in

As a creature ov the crossroads
I understand the criminal mind
And it’s my job to transmute it
Into something divine.
